The Newman Center at the University of Buffalo’s North Campus in Amherst serves as the Catholic ministry to the University’s ever expanding population. Fr. Pat Keleher, director of the Newman Center at UB, wanted the facility to be a progressive center for Catholic ministry that felt like home to the unique congregation of men and women that use it. The $2.8 million project utilized NYSERDA incentives to fund day lighting controls, light fixtures, and heating and cooling systems which improved efficiencies above Building Code Requirements.
This unique project was designed to showcase the beauty of the site adjacent to Ellicott Creek and preserve some of the property as wetlands.
The site includes a stainless steel sculptural beacon located in front of the Newman Center as well as a custom stainless steel building sign.
